Chennai: A 40-year-old woman, who was riding pillion with her 17-year-old son, died after the motorcycle collided with another motorcycle on Vallalar Salai in Tondiarpet on Tuesday night. She was travelling towards Tondiarpet with her son, a Class 12 student, when the accident occurred on Vallalar Salai. Senthilkumar (45) of Ilaiya Mudali Street, New Washermenpet, was riding the other motorcycle.
The boy, who was underage to ride, and the other motorcyclist were injured. Police identified the deceased as Mariyammal of Poondi Thangammal Street, New Washermenpet.

Passers-by rescued the injured trio and took them to Govt Stanley Hospital. Doctors examined them and declared Mariyammal dead on arrival. Her son and Senthilkumar were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The Washermenpet Traffic Investigation Wing registered a case against the deceased Mariyammal’s husband Senthil Kumar for letting his ward ride the bike despite being underage.
