Chennai: A group of men killed a 21-year-old AC mechanic with machetes in Mylapore on Monday night. Police suspect a feud linked to ganja sales led to the attack. They have formed three special teams to trace the suspects and have detained three students of a city college in Adyar.
Police said Sathyaseelan previously lived with his family on Veerapathiran Street in Mylapore. Police said Sathyaseelan recently threatened one of the assailants, after which they attacked him as a warning. He received treatment at a drug rehabilitation centre, and later, his family moved to Balaji Nagar in Velachery. He had studied till Class IX. Police detained four youths in connection with the murder and questioned them. Teams were also searching for three other suspects believed to have been involved in the attack. Preliminary inquiries indicated that Sathyaseelan has a history of ganja consumption and had shared some information about the local drug trade during his rehabilitation. Police were investigating whether the attack was linked to a dispute over the ganja sales.
He suffered deep injuries to his head, arms, and thigh and collapsed at the scene. He died at Government Royapettah Hospital and police sent his body for postmortem. Mylapore police registered a murder case and examined CCTV footage from the neighbourhood.
