Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) mayor R Priya on Thursday criticised the TVK govt for cancelling tenders worth at least ₹700 crore for various city projects, accusing it of stalling development works initiated by the previous DMK govt.
On monsoon preparedness, Priya said the corporation had started flood-prevention measures in June last year, while preparations under the present govt began only in Sept. She criticised TVK MLA Vijay Dhamo for describing a monsoon preparedness meeting as “boring”. Taking a dig at him, she asked, “If he can sit through a three-hour movie featuring his leader, can’t he sit through a govt meeting? DMK organised protests across Chennai against stalled civic projects and the sluggish North East monsoon preparedness work. Former ministers, MLAs and party functionaries participated in the protests.
