CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu secured investment commitments of Rs 15,300 crore during chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s visit to London, according to an official release. They include memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and a letter of intent.

Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd and its European and UK-based joint venture companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) involving Rs 11,000 crore. The key investment is expected to create around 7,000 jobs in design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics. The facility — with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore — will generate more than 2,000 high-value jobs.

Apart from this, Ernst & Young (EY) signed an MoU under a build-operate-transform-transfer model to set up a GCC for an international firm along Chennai’s Mount-Poonamallee GCC corridor. Vijay urged global businesses to leverage the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) to deepen trade, sourcing, and investment ties with Tamil Nadu.
