New Delhi : The food safety department destroyed 402 kg of rasgullas, chhena, milk cake and other food items during raids on sweet-making units in Nihal Vihar, while another 520 kg of spoiled khoya and chhena was destroyed at Mori Gate Khoya Mandi as part of its festive-season crackdown.
The department said the Nihal Vihar operation was conducted on a holiday, with teams deployed simultaneously across different lanes, after an earlier drive on Aug 26 faced difficulties locating sweet-making units. The department said further action would be taken against food business operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, based on inspection findings and laboratory reports. The action comes amid increased demand for sweets during the festive season.
