New Delhi: A 36-year-old man was arrested after a week-long search for stabbing his wife to death with a butcher’s knife following marital disputes. The accused had absconded after committing the offence and was nabbed Friday from Sector 20, Dwarka.
On Sept 27, Sonia (30) confronted her husband, Pardeep Kumar, at his biryani stall near Kali Mata Mandir, Palam, regarding alleged extramarital affairs. Following a PCR call received at 4.49 pm by Palam Village police station, cops reached the spot and shifted the victim to Indira Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. “Police received a tip-off from a credible source on Oct 2 regarding the accused’s whereabouts, which was immediately verified. Through sustained technical analysis, corroborated by field intelligence and continuous surveillance, the team traced the movements to Sector 20 in Dwarka, from where he was held,” said DCP Harsh Indora. Police said Kumar and Sonia had been married since 2017 and lived in Palam village with their two children.
Their matrimonial relationship had allegedly been strained for some time due to frequent disputes and allegations of extramarital affairs spouted against Kumar by his wife. The argument escalated and Kumar stabbed his wife in her chest and neck with a butcher’s knife. The accused allegedly admitted his involvement in the stabbing during interrogation. The accused originally came from Mathura and earned a living by working as a dhol player and running a biryani stall.
Further investigation is in progress to establish the complete sequence of events, recover the weapon and ascertain other circumstances connected with the crime.
