New Delhi: A 38-year-old man died and three others were injued after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while removing the shutters of an under-construction septic tank in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla, police have said.

The incident happened on a plot in Qutub Vihar on Oct 21. The three others Vinod (22), Chander Shekar (35) and Surender Singh, (42) were admitted there. Based on the daily diary entries, medico-legal reports and inspection of the spot, a case under sections 290 and 106(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Chhawla police station. In May 2025, a man died after entering a septic tank at a house in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar.

“Section 106(1) deals with causing death by negligence, while Section 290 relates to negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings, among other specified acts,” police said.
