A Delhi Police constable posted with the North district cyber cell has been arrested

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

The accused, identified as Moin Ali, was arrested along with an alleged accomplice Sunday, police said. New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable posted with the North district cyber cell has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping and extortion case.

In a similar case in May, seven people, including a Delhi Police constable, were arrested for allegedly robbing a man in the Bara Hindu Rao area of north Delhi and fleeing with cash and valuables worth over Rs 50 lakh. Among those arrested was Samay Singh Meena (38), posted with Delhi Police’s 5th Battalion and suspected to be the mastermind behind the robbery. Police had then recovered Rs 42 lakh in cash and five high-end mobile phones worth about Rs 6-6.5 lakh, allegedly purchased using the looted money.

An investigation was launched to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those allegedly involved.

He was subsequently sent to judicial custody, officers said. The case came to light after police received information about a kidnapping and a ransom demand. During the probe, police analysed technical intelligence and other inputs, which led investigators to the cyber cell constable. Acting on these leads, a team from Kotwali police station arrested Ali and his alleged associate Sunday. Following his arrest, the constable was suspended from service. Police are examining the roles of both accused and scrutinising evidence collected during the investigation.
