New Delhi: A financial dispute turned fatal for a 28-year-old man who was assaulted and smothered, allegedly by his wife, in west Delhi ’s Uttam Nagar on Sept 23. She was arrested.
The wife, Zeenat, called up her brother at 12.37 am just after the incident and asked him to come to her house near Kheda Wali Masjid immediately. The dispute allegedly arose over outstanding loans and unemployment of Akbar, who lost his job as a tailor 15 to 20 days ago. During interrogation, Zeenat revealed that an argument had broken out at night between her and Akbar, following which she hit him with the hammer, police said.
He then alerted police. Cops rushed to the spot and found Akbar Ali lying in a pool of blood. A hammer was found by his side. When he collapsed, Zeenat smothered his face with a pillow, leading to his death.
Zeenat and Akbar had been married for the past eight years. She has two daughters. Following the post-mortem report, Zeenat was arrested and a case under sections relating to murder under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered. Further investigation is in progress.
