New Delhi: A three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a school cab driver in outer Delhi’s Bawana, following which police arrested the suspect.
The cops got information about the alleged assault on Aug 24.
The suspect, identified as Vikas , has six criminal cases, including those of theft, police said. When they asked her about it, she told them about the incident and said the cab driver had touched her inappropriately. Vikas lured the girl with chocolates and sexually assaulted her on the school premises, according to police. “The minor has claimed that she was abused at least twice,” police added. The incident has also raised concerns over the engagement of unverified personnel by some schools, police said.
The girl is a student of a private school in outer Delhi. Her parents noticed injury marks on her body and a change in her behaviour. The parents alerted the school management and police. Police are investigating if the girl was assaulted over the past few weeks too. Police have advised schools to engage only police-verified personnel, including drivers, helpers, security guards and Group-D employees, and avoid hiring unverified staff.
The driver had been working with the school since last year.
A senior police officer said the child was initially unable to identify or name the suspect. Police showed her photographs and CCTV footage from the school, following which she identified the man as the “bad uncle who gave chocolates”.
Police have registered a case under the Pocso Act and Section 74 of BNS, which deals with assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed too.
