CXMT latest memory hardware attracts big Chinese players
The semiconductor manufacturer aims to ramp up larger-scale mass production by 2027, the report added. Citing two people familiar with the development, the report revealed that CXMT is producing HBM3E, an advanced class of high-bandwidth memory silicon essential for powering artificial intelligence (AI) hardware.
Prominent Chinese tech players, including Alibaba Group’s chip-design division T-Head and Beijing-based Cambricon Technologies, are said to be actively testing the HBM3E components alongside their in-house AI processors. Recently, China’s largest memory chipmaker sued the Pentagon after the company was placed on a list of companies the US government says support China’s military. Chinese memory chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has reportedly made a breakthrough in advanced memory chips even as the tech industry is witnessing unprecedented demand for RAMs. As per a report by The Information (via news agency Reuters), the company has started manufacturing advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) in limited volumes. Multiple domestic semiconductor design firms are already evaluating CXMT’s latest memory hardware to integrate with their proprietary computing silicon. If ongoing qualification testing succeeds, these technology firms plan to integrate CXMT’s memory modules into commercial products as early as next year, the report pointed out. The lawsuit marks the latest escalation between Beijing’s tech sector and Washington over trade restrictions tied to national security concerns.
