Construction work in the basement was underway when the building collapsed at around 1.30pm, according to police sources. The Delhi Fire Services received a call about the incident at around 1.33pm. Rescue teams reached the site around 1.50pm and began search operations.

Officials said all three were in critical condition. BJP MLA Anil Kumar Sharma said several students living in a paying guest accommodation were feared trapped inside the building. He said some students were even making phone calls from beneath the rubble. Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta said an adjacent building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. She said teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were carrying out rescue operations.

Three people were rescued from the collapsed structure and rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Emergency teams continued searching the debris for others who may have been trapped. Rescue teams were working to reach those trapped and take them to safety. The administration was closely monitoring the situation.
