NEW DELHI: With Delhi Police removing Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest venues and shifting demonstrations to three alternative grounds, protesters may now have to travel farther from the capital’s political centre to stage a dharna. Its location shifts demonstrations towards the eastern part of the capital, away from the central area where Jantar Mantar has traditionally served as a protest venue. The ground is among the three locations identified by Delhi Police as alternatives for demonstrations. The distance could be a consideration for protesters travelling from central and other parts of the city. Delhi Police’s decision to remove Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue follows discussions on identifying alternative locations for demonstrations. Based on the committee’s recommendations, Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated protest venues, while the three locations have been designated for holding demonstrations.
