Citing nearly a decade without a salary revision, a teachers’ body: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: Citing nearly a decade without a salary revision, a teachers’ body has urged Delhi govt to provide guest staff with a pay hike, minimum pay scales and greater job security.

Govt Schools Teachers’ Association (GSTA), in a representation to Delhi govt, said thousands of guest teachers working under Directorate of Education continued to face financial uncertainty due to the absence of any salary revision over the past 9-10 years. Given rising inflation and growing family commitments, providing them with a substantial pay rise, a minimum pay scale and adequate job security is not only an urgent necessity but also a matter of fairness,” GSTA general secretary Ajay Veer Yadav said. Yadav said the issue had been raised with the education ministry on several occasions and that the association had received assurances regarding its resolution. An education ministry official said steps were being taken to address the concerns of guest teachers. “We recently proposed a monthly remuneration structure for them and are exploring other ways to improve their working conditions,” the official said.

The association also sought the release of pending reimbursements for tablets purchased by teachers for official educational purposes under directions issued by the previous govt. The association stated that these teachers remain uncertain about their job security and financial stability. “Despite years of continuous service in govt schools, guest teachers continue to face job insecurity, leaving their future and family responsibilities uncertain. The association argued that the long service rendered by guest teachers, coupled with rising living costs, warranted a salary revision and stronger employment safeguards. Download the TOI App.
