New Delhi: A Delhi court Tuesday pulled up Gurgaon Police for furnishing a “very cryptic” response to its directions seeking records regarding the death of 31-year-old real estate professional Yuvraj Singh Manchanda and ordered fresh compliance.
It directed the SHO to submit a report, complying with the order by Sept 24. A key concern was the body’s alleged cremation by Badshahpur police on Sept 14, despite the Lajpat Nagar FIR having been registered three days earlier. The court had on Sept 20, under Section 94 of the BNSS, directed the Gurgaon commissioner of police to preserve and produce 12 categories of records, including the police diary and PCR records, body recovery and crime-scene documents, inquest and post-mortem records, forensic and DNA material, photographs and videos, identification and cremation records, recovered belongings, ZIPNET records and communications with the family.
The court observed that the response submitted by SI Chandgi Ram of Badshahpur police station was “cryptic and not in compliance of order dated 20.09.2026”. Prasad said, “Instead of calling my clients to the police station, they were sent photographs of someone else’s corpse, and when they denied it was the person, the photographs were deleted. Appearing for the complainant, senior advocate Amit Prasad, along with advocates Rajat Jain and Neharika Kushwaha, questioned the conduct of Badshahpur police during the identification process. The case’s prime accused, Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva, have been remanded in five days’ police custody.
The case concerns the death of Yuvraj, whose family moved the Saket court seeking preservation and production of records relating to the recovery, identification and cremation of the body.
