Delhi govt spokesperson and Moti Nagar MLA Harish Khurana said the recommendation requirement

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: Organisations seeking financial assistance under Delhi govt’s Vayo Anand scheme for senior citizens will have to submit an MLA’s recommendation along with their applications under eligibility conditions for 2026-27.

Eligible organisations receive Rs 2.4 lakh annually, or Rs 20,000 a month, to support recreational activities and community engagement programmes for senior citizens. Applicant organisations must be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, have at least 200 members aged 60 years or above, be located in Delhi, and operate from a govt or private community facility rather than residential premises.

Delhi govt spokesperson and Moti Nagar MLA Harish Khurana said the recommendation requirement would provide an additional layer of scrutiny. The scheme aims to promote social engagement among senior citizens by providing grant-in-aid to welfare organisations and recreation centres. Under the norms, an MLA’s recommendation has been included both as an eligibility criterion and a mandatory supporting document.

All MLAs, including opposition legislators, can recommend organisations under the scheme,” Khurana said. An official said applications under the Vayo Anand scheme must be submitted to the district social welfare office concerned. “Applications will initially be accepted offline and later through an online portal once it becomes operational,” the official said.

“MLAs are generally familiar with organisations working in their constituencies and the needs of local communities. Their recommendations will serve as an additional check to help ensure that benefits reach genuine beneficiaries and that public funds are used for their intended purpose.
