Justice Sachin Datta granted interim bail to Lovkesh Bajaj on medical grounds

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Monday granted four weeks’ interim bail on medical grounds to Lovkesh Bajaj, owner of the hotel where a fire broke out in Malviya Nagar on June 3, killing 23 people. The court granted bail on a bond of Rs 25,000 and one surety of the like amount. The High Court had on September 16 sought a report from the jail authorities on Bajaj’s medical condition. Delhi Police filed a charge sheet on September 2 before Saket court against Bajaj, Jay Mishra and cook Kesar Negi in connection with the case.

Justice Sachin Datta granted interim bail to Bajaj after considering the medical status report filed by the jail authorities. Bajaj had been hospitalised and was seeking bail on medical grounds.

On September 16, Justice Manoj Jain was informed that Bajaj had been discharged from RML Hospital on September 15 following surgery. He was subsequently taken back to jail and is currently in judicial custody. Advocates Nitin Ahlawat and Preeti Yadav appeared for Bajaj. It was argued that only a status report had been filed and that no complete discharge summary had been submitted. The counsel also submitted that Bajaj had fainted while in judicial custody and had open wounds that required care. A report subsequently informed the court that Bajaj had been discharged after undergoing surgery at RML Hospital and that he required dressing, which could be done at the jail hospital.
