New Delhi: Delhi High Court Tuesday sought Centre’s stand on petitions by traders, vendors and lawyers seeking regulation of protests in the national capital according to the governing standard operating procedures.
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, representing govt, submitted that the petitions in the top court have been adjourned to Oct 15. The traders have complained that they have lost business of Rs 2,000 crore already due to barricading and protests.
It also asked the petitioners to bring on record a copy of the protest-related petitions filed in SC, stressing it won’t “want to cover an area already sub judice in Supreme Court”. Counsel for the traders asserted that being the festive season, Oct to Feb is the “best time for business”, which was adversely impacted due to the protests. The senior lawyers appearing for the petitioners argued that SC has passed several directions on regulating protests, which also ought to be complied with.
A bench of acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma asked the counsel appearing for Centre and police to seek instructions before listing the matter for hearing on Friday.
Because of barricading and how protests are happening.., “Traders have lost up to Rs 2,000 crore in recent times.
