New Delhi: Road closures around Sardar Patel Marg for Bloomberg New Economy Forum triggered traffic snarls around Dhaula Kuan Tuesday, with vehicles piling up on alternative routes.
If the traffic police implement the proposed dynamic restrictions and diversions, at least 22 stretches in central Delhi could be affected. Congestion was also reported on Vande Mataram Marg and the Golden Quadrilateral carriageway merging with Ring Road. With both carriageways of Sardar Patel Marg closed, traffic spilled onto surrounding roads. Traffic movement was also affected around Jantar Mantar, where heavy barricades remained in place amid protests in the city since the beginning of Oct. Ashoka Road, from Gol Dak Khana roundabout to Jantar Mantar roundabout, also witnessed snarls. Both carriageways of Sansad Marg, from Connaught Place’s Outer Circle to Ashoka Road roundabout, have been closed. This has increased traffic pressure on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, which commuters are using as an alternative route. Traffic was also moving slowly on Janpath towards Connaught Place, Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Barakhamba Road. Download the TOI App.
