Delhi and surrounding NCR areas are expected to experience cloudy skies and light rain.
NEW DELHI: Delhi is likely to see a generally cloudy sky with light rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued wet weather over the national capital, Gurugram and other parts of Delhi-NCR.
No rainfall was recorded at Safdarjung, Palam, Lodi Road and Ayanagar in the 24 hours preceding Wednesday morning, while the Ridge recorded trace rainfall, according to the IMD.
The weather office said the rainfall activity is likely to occur in spells, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, rather than as continuous rain through the day.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Lodi Road recorded 26.2 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees above normal, while Ayanagar recorded 25.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees above normal. Palam recorded 25.2 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees above normal. The Ridge recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 22.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees below normal.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely at isolated places, with gusty winds expected in parts of Delhi-NCR and Haryana. The weather activity is associated with an active Western Disturbance affecting northwest India, which is expected to bring spells of rain and thunderstorms to the region. The wet spell is expected to continue into Thursday, with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall forecast over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over several other regions, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab on Wednesday and Thursday.
