New Delhi: A routine vehicle check near Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport turned violent early Tuesday when a car driver allegedly smashed through the barricades and hit a traffic head constable and fled, leaving the cop with a fractured leg.
The incident took place around 4.30am on Oct 27, when Kumar was on duty with sub-inspector Virender and head constable Ramkesh near the departure flyover. Police registered an FIR under sections 110, 221 and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The personnel saw a white Honda car with a temporary registration number parked on the road leading to the multi-level parking near T3, according to Kumar’s statement. The car was obstructing traffic. The vehicle was brought to the barricades, near the parking toll plaza, for document verification. Following a PCR call, SI Madan Lal of IGI Airport police station reached the spot. He later visited the hospital, collected Kumar’s medico-legal report and recorded his statement. The provisions relate to attempt to commit culpable homicide, obstruction of a public servant in the discharge of public duty, and assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty, respectively.
