NEW DELHI: Ahead of the DUSU elections 2026, security has been tightened across Delhi University ‘s North and South campuses on Friday, with more than 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed as students head to polling stations. Students attending day colleges can vote from 8.30 am to 1 pm, while voting at evening colleges will continue from 3 pm to 7.30 pm.
A senior police officer said security arrangements had been put in place around all colleges and other important locations to ensure peaceful polling and maintain law and order. Polling for the four central panel posts — president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary — is being conducted in two shifts. Police personnel have been positioned at key points, while foot patrols, motorcycle teams and PCR vans are maintaining a visible presence around the campuses. Paramilitary forces have also been deployed at strategic locations as part of the security arrangements. Additional security has been deployed around polling centres to manage student movement, prevent overcrowding and check unauthorised gatherings or clashes.
In the 2025 elections, ABVP won three of the four central panel posts, including president, while NSUI won the vice-president’s post. Police teams are also monitoring sensitive and vulnerable areas where a large number of students and supporters are expected to gather. The university has restricted vehicular movement on key stretches, including Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road. Police are coordinating with university and college authorities on entry and exit points, movement of students and other arrangements related to polling and counting. The election has major student organisations in the fray, including the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP ), Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India ( NSUI ) and the AISA-SFI Left alliance. Police personnel will remain deployed during counting to ensure the process and declaration of results take place peacefully. Download the TOI App.
The restrictions will remain in force on Friday and Saturday until the results are declared. Counting will be held on Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus.
