New Delhi: The MCD standing committee, in its first meeting after chairperson Satya Sharma was re-elected for a second term, passed several key proposals Tuesday. It directed officials to crack down on illegal play schools, unauthorised food carts and open tandoors in public spaces.
Among the key proposals cleared were the declaration of 48 villages as urban villages under Section 507(a) of Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, the renaming of MCD zones, the replacement and maintenance of public lights, and the extension of the deadline for the One-Time Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26 by one month. The procurement of 70 mechanical road sweeping machines was approved, along with an operation and maintenance service for 10 years for roads under MCD on a service-outsourcing model. She said the MCD would write to Delhi govt seeking land for new gaushalas so that the animals could be shifted to these shelters.

Sharma said stray cattle pose a risk to traffic and public safety. The committee also sought land from Delhi govt for setting up gaushalas to address the problem of stray and abandoned cattle on city roads. The committee also approved the establishment of a medical college with an associated hospital at Kingsway Camp under the PPP model, the conservation and adaptive reuse of the Town Hall complex at Chandni Chowk, and a revised layout plan for DDU Marg. The committee also gave its nod to the formation of a five-member inter-departmental syllabus revision committee for the SAS examination. Sharma directed officials to intensify measures to prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. She called for regular fogging in vulnerable areas and awareness campaigns in coordination with councillors. Taking note of H1N1 cases in Delhi, the committee directed officials to conduct awareness campaigns. The issue of illegal play schools was also discussed. Officials were directed to identify such institutions and take action against them. Some councillors raised the matter of unauthorised food carts and open tandoors operating on roads and public spaces, saying these were affecting traffic movement and contributing to smoke and pollution.
