Jezler allegedly induced complainant Pranzal Kumar to transfer Rs 60 lakh into two of her bank

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: A German national of Indian origin was remanded in two days’ police custody by a Delhi court Wednesday for allegedly taking Rs 60 lakh from a man on the pretext of getting him German permanent residency or citizenship.

Jezler allegedly induced complainant Pranzal Kumar to transfer Rs 60 lakh into two of her bank accounts by promising to arrange for a German citizenship or permanent residency, according to police. The FIR was registered at Vasant Kunj police station in 2025. She also introduced Kumar to Rajat Arora, allegedly working in the German embassy.

Police said efforts to trace Jezler, who lives in Switzerland with her Swiss national husband, had earlier failed. Seeking custody, the investigating officer said an interrogation was necessary to trace the money, identify alleged co-conspirators, verify any German embassy official’s involvement and recover relevant documents and electronic records. Neither was done, nor was the money returned. Police also informed the court that the German embassy, FRRO and ministry of external affairs had been notified of her arrest.

She was produced in Patiala House courts after spending a day in judicial custody and was remanded till Oct 16. Because of a lookout circular (LOC), jezler, president of the World Book of Records, Switzerland, was apprehended at IGI Airport on Oct 13.

Animesh Kumar, the judicial magistrate, first class, observed that “it appears to be an undisputed fact that the accused, Poonam Jezler, received an amount of Rs 60 lakh in her bank accounts, which has been transferred by or on behalf of the complainant.

The court said the investigation must establish why the money was transferred to her accounts.
