New Delhi: With nearly three-fourths of patwari posts in Delhi govt lying vacant, affecting key revenue functions such as maintenance of land records and verification of ownership documents, lieutenant governor TS Sandhu has approved amendments to the recruitment rules to ease hiring.
At present, only 60 patwaris are in position against 230 sanctioned posts. Officials said the revenue department had struggled to fill vacancies due to the eligibility criteria under the existing rules. Recruitment through deputation has also been introduced to help fill vacancies, officials said. Patwaris play a key role in maintaining land records, conducting field inspections and assisting in land mutation and acquisition proceedings. In the last recruitment exercise conducted by Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB), no candidate met the mandatory requirement of possessing a one-year computer diploma from a govt-recognised institution. Graduation and a diploma or certification in cadastral or total-station surveying, along with one year of field experience, were listed as desirable qualifications. Under the amended rules, graduation from a recognised university has been made the essential qualification. Under the revised rules, graduates in any discipline will be eligible to apply for the post, and the earlier requirement of a one-year computer diploma has been scrapped. Earlier, candidates were required to have passed Class XII with mathematics and possess a one-year computer diploma.
