New Delhi: Police Monday arrested the driver of the dumper truck who rammed his vehicle into a crane and an autorickshaw in Sarita Vihar, killing four people and injuring two early Sunday.
Of the challans, four carried penalties of around Rs 20,000-25,000 each reportedly for no-entry violations, while two were reportedly for no parking and two for a defective number plate. The accident took place around 3.20am on Road No. 13 in Sarita Vihar when the dumper, coming from Noida, rammed into a crane and a parked autorickshaw as workers were installing CCTV cameras for the traffic police.
Police said he claimed he lost control of the dumper, possibly after a tyre burst.
In the latter cases, police said the letter ‘A’ on the number plate appeared scratched or cut. However, sources said no online or on-the-spot challan had been issued against the vehicle in Delhi. Senior officers said the vehicle will undergo an inspection to understand what could have caused the accident. Police said seven people were on the spot when the accident occurred.
All the challans were issued in Noida or Faridabad . Vinod Kumar Yadav, the driver, is from Etah, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested in Haryana. The owner of the dumper truck has also been summoned by police. Two workers were on the crane installing the cameras, and two others were standing nearby. One person was inside the autorickshaw, and another was standing beside it. Sudhir, a seventh worker, was standing at some distance from the others. He escaped unhurt.
