New Delhi: Southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from Delhi and adjoining areas over the next two to three days, signalling the gradual end of the rainy season in the capital, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
In its latest update, IMD said the monsoon had further retreated from parts of Rajasthan , Haryana and Punjab . The withdrawal line currently passes through Jaisalmer, Nagaur, Sikar, Rohtak, Patiala and Gurdaspur.
The city has received 728.6mm of rainfall so far against the long-period average (LPA) of 621.7mm, a surplus of 17%. The month has recorded 74.7mm of rain so far, 30.1% below normal. This year’s monsoon arrived in Delhi on July 2, five days later than its normal onset date of June 27. In 2025, the southwest monsoon retreated from Delhi on Sept 24, the earliest withdrawal from the national capital since 2002. The normal date for monsoon withdrawal from Delhi is Sept 25.
Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal from the remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, as well as parts of Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kachchh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh over the next two to three days, according to the weather department. The expected withdrawal comes after Delhi recorded above-normal rainfall during the current monsoon season. Do you expect the rainfall activity to improve in the coming months?
