New Delhi: Two men were arrested for allegedly creating a disturbance during a protest over Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Connaught Place last week, as Delhi Police continued its crackdown on those suspected of disrupting public order and circulating objectionable content on social media.

Police sources identified them as Shivam (22) and Gaurav (30), both residents of Ghaziabad . Sources added that Delhi Police had also been taking action against at least 17 social media handles for allegedly circulating objectionable content in connection with the protest. Detentions continued Saturday, with more than 30 people detained from different locations in connection with the protests. A woman journalist has approached Delhi Police seeking registration of an FIR over an alleged incident in which she was allegedly pushed during an INDIA bloc procession to Supreme Court on Oct 12 while around 11 weeks pregnant, causing her to fall and sustain injuries that required hospitalisation.

They had allegedly come to create a nuisance and are involved in the property business,” police sources said, adding that their conduct was being examined. Sources said police were considering registering a separate case in connection with the incident. Police sources said those detained were suspected of being involved in protest-related activities, while further action would depend on the circumstances of each incident and the findings of the investigation.

“They were seen getting out of a car carrying sticks. Multiple FIRs have been registered in connection with incidents of scuffles, use of abusive language and alleged making of derogatory remarks. Police are examining online posts and videos related to the protest to identify those responsible for allegedly spreading misleading information or making provocative statements. In a notice sent to an X user, police stated that an FIR had been registered over the alleged deliberate circulation of fabricated videos and reels, along with false information through electronic means, with the intention of causing public mischief and disturbing public order. The notice added that several fake videos were being circulated on the platform, allegedly spreading misinformation and misleading the general public. Police sought details of the accounts in question, including registration information, names, contact numbers and email IDs, as part of the investigation. Police are also examining a video purportedly showing a protester slapping a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) member near Rajiv Chowk metro station in central Delhi.
