The 1.4-km structure is being built in northeast Delhi. The Karawal Nagar project is being developed as Delhi’s first integrated double-decker structure, combining a flyover and Metro corridor in a single project. It will run between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations.

The Delhi government said 88% of construction work on the project has been completed. The project is now targeted for completion by December 2026. The revised project cost has been approved at Rs 291 crore. With 88% of construction work completed, the project is targeted for completion by December. It estimates that around 65-70% of traffic would shift to the elevated structure, leaving the surface road largely for local traffic.

Because approvals required for certain components were not available, work on the project was affected in 2023.

The government said the stretch currently witnesses heavy traffic congestion. The Delhi government has now approved the revised cost estimate. The project is also expected to provide a signal-free stretch from Gokulpuri to Signature Bridge via Khajuri Khas.
