New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has activated a multi-layered emergency response system, including dedicated medical, disaster management and quick-response teams, to ensure uninterrupted civic and emergency services during the ongoing Brics Summit .
The civic body said the arrangements were aimed at handling medical emergencies and supporting the large workforce deployed on the ground by various agencies between Sept 10 and 15. A Quick Medical Response Team (QMRT), comprising 11 specialist doctors, nursing officers and other medical personnel, has been constituted for immediate deployment in case of medical emergencies. Officials said a logbook of complaints and action taken is being maintained and that no complaints relating to waterlogging or traffic mismanagement had been received till Sept 12.

To ensure the smooth functioning of essential medical services and uninterrupted patient care, dedicated arrangements have also been put in place simultaneously,” NDMC officials said. “The designated team has been kept on standby and instructed to remain available at the hospital to ensure an immediate response in the event of a mass-casualty incident or any other disaster situation,” an NDMC order stated. “About 50 staff members operate the centre through 18 screens, monitoring civic services and traffic movement in coordination with Delhi Police, Traffic Police, CPWD and other agencies,” NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal said after visiting the facility.
“The casualty and emergency services at Charak Palika Hospital, along with the emergency services at Palika Maternity Hospital, have remained fully operational throughout the summit period. The satellite hospital will cater to the workforce deployed on the ground from various departments for summit-related duties. NDMC has also activated a Disaster Management Team comprising eight senior specialists, heads of departments and support staff to respond to any mass-casualty or disaster situation. To ensure civic issues do not escalate during the summit, NDMC’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at Palika Kendra is operating round the clock to monitor services and coordinate response across its jurisdiction. Nodal officers from different departments have been assigned for coordination with NDMC wings and external agencies. With rain forecast during the summit, drainage-patrolling teams have been deployed at vulnerable spots, while executive engineers are on round-the-clock duty. Dewatering pumps, including mobile units, have also been stationed at critical locations for immediate deployment. Download the TOI App.
