New Delhi: A Mumbai-based Air India pilot died during a Delhi layover Friday. The pilot, in his 40s, had recently moved from Air India Express to AI. He was found unconscious in his hotel room in Vasant Kunj and rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Delhi Police said the pilot had checked into the hotel Thursday. He was found lying unconscious and unresponsive,” said the police. “The hotel manager went to the pilot’s room and found it locked from inside. The room was opened with the hotel master key. “The deceased’s post-mortem examination was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital Saturday. The final cause of death shall be ascertained after receipt of the final opinion. Further enquiry is in progress,” the police added.
On Friday evening, his brother contacted the hotel manager, saying he was not responding to calls.
Air India is in close touch with his family and is extending all support at this time of grief,” an AI spokesperson said. “Air India is deeply saddened at the passing of a cockpit crew member. He was on a layover rest at a hotel in Delhi where he was found unconscious last evening.
