The maximum temperature has stayed above 35 degrees Celsius. Saturday, it climbed to 37.1, making it the hottest Oct day in two years. New Delhi: Oct has started on a warmer note.
The maximum temperature Sunday was 36.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. The day temperatures on Oct 1 and 2 were 35.2 and 36 degrees Celsius, respectively. In contrast, the highest maximum temperature in Oct last year was 35.7 degrees Celsius on Oct 2. It was also the only time in Oct 2025 when the maximum temperature crossed 35, India Meteorological Department (IMD) data shows. Explaining the reason behind Delhi recording high day temperatures in Oct so far, Krishna Mishra , scientist, IMD, said: “Clear skies and no significant rain in the last 15 days have caused the maximum temperature to remain above normal. Prevailing westerly and northwesterly winds are likely to change to easterlies from Oct 6 and hence, mercury is expected to fall by 2-4 degrees from Oct 6-9. The Met department’s data shows Safdarjung received an intense spell of showers from Sept 5 to 7. However, it saw light rain on Sept 27 after the withdrawal of the monsoon. IMD has forecast that the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius Monday and around 33-35 degrees Celsius Tuesday. The mercury is predicted to dip to around 31-33 degrees Celsius Wednesday. In Oct 2024, 2023 and 2022, the highest day temperature was recorded at 37.2 degrees Celsius on Oct 2, and 35.7 degrees Celsius on Oct 10 and 35.2 degrees Celsius on Oct 3, respectively. The minimum temperature Sunday touched 24.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. It was 23.2 degrees Celsius the previous day. The minimum is likely to stay between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius Monday and around 21-23 degrees Celsius Tuesday.
In the absence of any major rain over the past many days, the city has been seeing clear skies and maximum hours of sunshine. There is a possibility of very light rain or a drizzle, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning Tuesday.
