The Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia has secured the prestigious Indian Council of Medical Research-Short Term Studentship (ICMR-STS) 2026 research grant, with two BDS students from the department receiving the grant for their undergraduate research.
Under the programme, each selected project carries a total stipend of ₹60,000, providing financial support to undergraduate students to undertake their approved research projects. The ICMR-STS programme is a competitive national initiative of ICMR, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, aimed at fostering scientific aptitude and research skills among undergraduate medical and dental students. The programme provides selected students with an opportunity to undertake short-term research projects under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors and gain hands-on exposure to scientific methodology and research. The achievement is particularly significant as the selected projects from the Faculty of Dentistry focus on innovative and technology-enabled approaches to dental education, reflecting the Faculty’s emphasis on evidence-based teaching, research-led learning and the integration of contemporary educational technologies. Both selected projects address contemporary opportunities in undergraduate dental education. Anushka Gupta’s study seeks to comparatively evaluate virtual microscopy and conventional microscopy as modalities for oral pathology practical learning, while Shams Hasan Khan’s research explores the effectiveness of standardised video-based demonstration and NotebookLM-assisted instructions in comparison with traditional in-person demonstration for orthodontic wire-bending. Prof. Nadeem Yunus, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, congratulated both the awardees and their faculty mentors on this significant achievement. He appreciated the students for demonstrating research aptitude at the undergraduate level and commended the mentors for their guidance and encouragement in developing the research projects.
