New Delhi: Four women wrestlers have challenged the acquittal of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh and its former secretary, Vinod Tomar, in a sexual harassment case, calling the Aug 3 order “unsustainable in law” and based on a “manifestly erroneous and selective appreciation of the evidence on record”.
The court had also cited the survivors’ continued friendly relations with the accused after the alleged incidents as “unnatural” conduct, besides pointing to other material discrepancies. The criminal revision petition was filed through senior advocate Rebecca John before special judge Digvinay Singh of Rouse Avenue Courts and is scheduled to come up for hearing Saturday. They included the survivors reportedly not accompanying police to identify the exact locations of the alleged crimes, or refusing to do so in writing, the silence of eyewitnesses, including police officers and family members, and the failure to report the incidents for years. Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Singh and Tomar, while a cancellation report was filed in a related Pocso case registered against Singh by a minor wrestler.
