Hyderabad : A day after a man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Raidurgam police limits, cops arrested Sandeep Rai, son of prominent art director Anand Sai, on Tuesday.

Police said the 23-year-old was booked under Section 105 (negligence causing death) of the BNS. Early on Monday morning, 31-year-old Nanda Kishor Kumar Ray was hit by an SUV while crossing the road at Khajaguda. The SUV driver, 21-year-old Zaydshah Kadri, immediately stopped his vehicle and stepped out to assist the injured.

“At the time of accident, he was driving back from his father’s office in Jubilee Hills and heading towards his home in Financial district,” said Raidurgam inspector, T Bhupathi. the other hit Kadri and the already injured Nanda Kishor,” deputy commissioner of police (Kukatpally Zone) Riti Raj told TOI While one car hit the parked cab. On witnessing the accident, a cab driver passing by also stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road and rushed in to help. “Both Kadri and the cab driver picked up the injured and were shifting him to a private hospital on the other side of the road when two cars came from behind.

Almost 12 hours after the accident, police caught the two friends and brought them to the Raidurgam police station. They were, however, let off after questioning without being served a notice. Police claim that Sandeep was made to undergo a drunk-driving test and a drug test, and both came back negative. His blood sample was collected and sent for forensic examination.

“We were waiting for legal opinion to take further action against Sandeep and hence he was let off on Monday. But he was called back for questioning on Tuesday and subsequently taken into custody,” an official said.
