Hyderabad: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Sunday alleged that the previous BRS govt failed to complete several irrigation projects that were crucial to the people and farmers of Palamuru (combined Mahbubnagar district).
Addressing a public meeting after laying foundation stones and inaugurating development works worth nearly ₹200 crore in the Devarakadra assembly constituency, he said, “Had the previous BRS govt completed the SLBC and other irrigation projects in its nearly 10-year tenure in the govt, farmers would not have faced the present hardship even during the El Nino impact. Stating that Jurala and Nettempadu projects were completed during the previous Congress regimes in the undivided state, he alleged that KCR-led BRS govt had failed to complete the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation project.
“KCR is staying away from participating in the discussions in the state legislative assembly to avoid questions on the progress of irrigation projects and failure of the previous BRS govt to complete the projects during 10 years of their govt. Minister Komatireddy further alleged that Kaleshwaram was constructed for commissions and criticised the previous govt for the condition of the project. Despite such failures, the BRS leaders are now visiting farmers’ agricultural fields and shedding crocodile tears over the problems arising out of El Nino,” he alleged.
Komatireddy assured farmers that the Congress govt is taking steps to complete the pending works in the region and said ₹560 crore has been deposited in the district collector’s account for land acquisition for Uddandapur project and assured that the govt would fill the Karivena Reservoir with water within the next eight months. Accompanied by minister Vakiti Srihari and Devarakadra MLA G Madhusudhan Reddy, Komatireddy performed the bhoomi puja for HAM road works from Meenugonipalli, taken up at an estimated cost of ₹158.4 crore and also laid the foundation stone for a high-level bridge across Ookachetthu Vagu between Pardipur and Muchchintal villages in Koukuntla mandal, at an estimated cost of ₹40 crore. He inaugurated the ₹6-crore HLB across Ookachetthu Vagu at Madanapuram and dedicated it to the public.
Stating that the Congress govt is committed to welfare and development of the people, he further alleged that former chief minister K Chandrasekar Rao and his son KT Rama Rao looted Telangana’s wealth and built farmhouses while neglecting the irrigation needs of Palamuru.
