The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: A 55-year-old private employee from Kapra has lost Rs 2.20 crore in a stock market investment fraud. On a complaint lodged by the victim, Malkajgiri cybercrime police registered a case and launched an investigation.

The victim, from Saket Colony in Kapra, stated in his complaint that on June 15, 2026, he was added by an unknown person to a Telegram group called Future Tomorrow 2061. “The fraudulent platform, Fin* Investment, showed the total investment value at Rs 22 crore. When I tried to withdraw Rs 1.5 crore, the fraudsters claimed a risk flag had been raised on my account and demanded Rs 1.5 crore to revoke it. Between June 15 and Aug 27, the victim had transferred over Rs 2.2 crore to different bank accounts provided by the fraudsters.

A person identifying herself as Anita claimed that she represented a stock trading company and lured the victim into investing in stocks through fake trading platforms with promises of high returns. The fraudsters had subsequently persuaded the victim to participate in IPO investments through the fraudulent platform. As they did not let him withdraw any amount even after paying the additional fee, he suspected that he had been cheated, and approached the police.
