Police said the couple had planned the robbery to make quick money. Rajitha allegedly strangled Anasuya with a towel while Narsing assisted her, police said. To avoid suspicion, Rajitha is said to have continued visiting the house for her routine domestic work in the days following the crime.
When he returned, he found her lying unconscious on a bed with injury marks on her neck. Her gold mangalsutra, two rings and earrings were missing. A special team was constituted to crack the case. Investigators grew suspicious of Rajitha, who had been working as a housemaid at Anasuya’s residence for some time. The couple were taken into custody for questioning and allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation. Fearing that Anasuya would identify them if they stole the jewellery, they allegedly decided to kill her before carrying out the theft. They reportedly switched off the power supply, pushed her to the ground, and dragged her into another room. After confirming that she was dead, the couple allegedly removed her mangalsutra, two gold rings and earrings before fleeing the scene. Download the TOI App.
