Hyderabad : An 18-year-old nursing student was allegedly strangled to death at her house in a village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, with police launching a manhunt for a youth accused of persistently pressuring her to marry him after she repeatedly turned down his advances.
“At around 4.30 pm, I called Harini. At 5 pm, I went home and found my daughter lying unconscious behind the bathroom. In her complaint, Rajeshwari alleged that a 20-year-old man from the same village, D Pavan Kumar, could be behind the murder.
Following the postmortem on Wednesday, doctors informed police that there were no signs of sexual assault and that Harini had died due to strangulation.
Blood was oozing from her mouth and there was an injury mark on her neck,” Rajeshwari said in her police complaint. Someone received the call but did not speak. I sent a girl from the neighbourhood to check and she returned saying the door was locked. Alerted by locals, Julurpad police rushed to the village and shifted the body for postmortem examination.
The victim , I Harini (18), a native of Vangannapalem village, was a first year BSc (nursing) student at a private college in Khammam district. At around 3 pm on Tuesday, she was alone at home after her mother, Rajeshwari , went to a nearby house to help prepare pickles. The section of the case will be altered from section 194 of BNSS (suspicious death) to 103 (1) (murder).
“We were told that Harini was strangled to death. Our teams are trying to locate him,” Kothagudem DSP L Adi Narayana said. A few days ago, Harini returned to her native village. The main suspect, Pavan, is absconding.
