The newly commissioned motors will be used to lift water into the Narlapur reservoir

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

The newly commissioned motors will be used to lift water into the Narlapur reservoir. Hyderabad: Two massive Bahubali pumping motors were installed and operated at the Narlapur reservoir on Wednesday in a significant boost for the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS).

Inaugurating the pumps, minister Jupally Krishna Rao said the Congress govt was committed to completing irrigation projects in the erstwhile Palamuru district and ensuring that water reached the tail-end ayacut areas. The PRLIS is intended to provide irrigation and drinking water to erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts.

The Mahatma Gandhi-Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme was designed to irrigate 4.6 lakh acres, while the Nettempadu project and Bhima project are expected to cover 2 lakh acres each and the Koilsagar project 50,000 acres, he said.

He said the state govt was accelerating project works and taking steps to meet irrigation targets. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the motors, the minister said the govt’s priority was to complete pending irrigation projects and ensure farmers received irrigation water. Had those works been finished, the present situation would not have arisen, he said. He said that the Congress govt has been conducting regular reviews of irrigation projects in the region and monitoring progress to expedite pending works.

The minister alleged that the previous BRS govt dedicated the Palamuru-Rangareddy project to the nation without completing crucial components such as canals, distributary networks and other supporting infrastructure. The govt is identifying project-wise bottlenecks and taking measures to complete them at the earliest, he added.
