Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday said that his party has filed a petition and a review petition in the Supreme Court over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, raising questions about the process and changes made to statutory forms.
On Union home minister Amit Shah ’s remarks that the Congress would lose even the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, the Hyderabad MP said the AIMIM would continue to work to prevent the BJP from forming the govt.
But it is not clear whether the decisions taken were unanimous or whether there was a dissenting voice,” Owaisi said. “We also filed a review petition in connection with the Supreme Court’s judgment on SIR, as certain aspects of the process required clarification,” he added. On the possibility of electoral alliances in Uttar Pradesh ahead of state assembly polls, the AIMIM president said their party was making efforts to form an alliance to prevent the BJP from returning to power in the state for a third consecutive term under chief minister Yogi Adityanath . Talks are still underway to form an alliance, he said. Other parties have to chalk out their own plans, he said. On AIMIM not participating in the INDIA bloc’s protest in New Delhi against SIR despite his party opposing the exercise from the beginning, Owaisi said they just can’t go and join them when they don’t want to talk to AIMIM even for an alliance. Let’s see what will happen in Khairatabad,” he said.
“Legally, the Election Commission has to work collectively. “We are good for them in Jubilee Hills but not in Delhi and elsewhere.
