Hyderabad : The Telangana govt on Friday released ₹179.9 crore towards overseas scholarship payments for 3,008 students, providing financial relief to those pursuing higher education abroad.

Of the total amount, ₹48.4 crore was released to 1,193 SC students under the Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi. Another ₹36.9 crore was released to 573 ST students. Under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Overseas Vidya Nidhi, ₹18.4 crore was sanctioned for 179 BC students, while ₹76.1 crore was released to 1,063 minority students under the CM’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme.

The funds were released on the directions of deputy chief minister and finance minister Bhatti Vikramarka, finance principal secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania said in a statement. Sultania said payments had been completed for all beneficiaries whose scholarships had been sanctioned. The state govt said the funding was aimed at enabling meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education at international universities without financial constraints.
