Several Congress workers displayed “Kumbhakarna KCR” posters while marching to the Dharna Chowk. Mahesh Goud said the opposition should point out mistakes committed by the govt rather than spread falsehoods. Highlighting welfare measures, Goud said the govt was implementing schemes such as Indiramma houses and supplying fine-quality rice. He said the govt had honoured Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule by unveiling their statues.
He questioned former chief minister and LoP K Chandrasekhar Rao for allegedly avoiding the assembly sessions while continuing to draw a salary. Goud urged KCR to give the LoP post either to his son KT Rama Rao or nephew T Harish Rao, or resign as the LoP if he was unwilling to attend the assembly sessions. He was speaking at the Maha Dharna organised by the Telangana Congress at Dharna Sthal near Indira Park demanding the resignation of KCR. Ministers D Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Mohammed Azharuddin, govt adviser V Hanumanth Rao, TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy and other Congress leaders took part. The ministers demanded that KCR either attend the assembly sessions or resign from his LoP post. The govt would rectify any errors and continue working for the people, he added. The ‘Praja Palana’ govt was functioning in accordance with the aspirations and ideals of the public, with welfare and development at the centre of its administration, he claimed. The Congress govt was committed to fulfilling its promises and providing homes to homeless people, he informed. In contrast, he alleged that the previous BRS govt had made extensive claims about double-bedroom houses but failed to deliver them. Goud also highlighted the Congress govt’s focus on Telangana’s social and cultural identity. He alleged that KCR had ignored movement activists such as Gaddar and Ande Sri, while stating that the Congress govt had instituted awards in Gaddar’s name.
Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said that in a democracy, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) holds a position of responsibility and should discharge his duties in the assembly.
