Hyderabad: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has partnered with IIT-Hyderabad to train its personnel in drone and anti-drone technology as part of efforts to strengthen security at critical infrastructure facilities against emerging aerial threats.

The force said the growing use of unmanned aerial systems and drones posed security challenges to these interconnected facilities, making specialised technical expertise essential. “This MoU will significantly increase specialisation within the force, directly supporting our newly formed functional sector pattern of supervision,” said Harpreet Kaur Sohi, inspector general and director of NISA. She said the collaboration would bring academic research into CISF’s training framework and help personnel develop the technical expertise to anticipate emerging threats.

The training will include hands-on exposure to drone assembly, flight operations along with research into advanced autonomous systems at TiHAN’s laboratories. The collaboration will also involve TiHAN providing academic and technical support to CISF’s proposed centre of excellence for drone and anti-drone technology at its Recruit Training Centre in Behror, Rajasthan. The partnership comes as CISF moves towards a sector-specific command structure covering critical infrastructure facilities in sectors such as power, petroleum, coal and ports. The collaboration is part of CISF’s broader efforts to work with academic institutions on cybersecurity, drone technology and other specialised security capabilities. Download the TOI App.
