Fraudsters pressured the couple by threatening arrest and prosecution
Kolkata: A 62-year-old south Kolkata resident was allegedly duped of Rs 29 lakh by fraudsters posing as senior Delhi Police officers. The accused allegedly placed the victim under ‘digital arrest’ and forced him to transfer Rs 29 lakh into bank accounts provided by them. To make the threat appear genuine, the fraudsters allegedly shared forged documents bearing the logos and letterheads of Delhi Police, the Reserve Bank of India and other central agencies. They then pressured the couple by threatening arrest and prosecution. After receiving the money, the callers stopped responding. The victim later approached Kolkata Police. Download the TOI App.
