A honeymoon in Darjeeling turned tragic for a newlywed couple from Chopra.
DARJEELING: What was meant to be a honeymoon getaway turned into a nightmare for a newlywed couple from Chopra in North Dinajpur after the woman suffered severe burn injuries when a fireball suddenly engulfed her during a barbecue session at a homestay in Sitong on September 13. Nikita Das was sitting with her husband Sameer Das at a private homestay when the incident occurred. CCTV footage shows the couple seated close to the barbecue. A man sitting across the fire then appears to get up and pour liquid from a can onto or near the barbecue. Within seconds, the flames flare up and a fireball shoots towards Nikita, engulfing her. Nikita falls to the ground as flames continue to surround her. Sameer immediately rushes towards her and tries to put out the fire. The man who had poured the liquid is also seen removing his T-shirt and using it to help douse the flames. Homestay staff and others subsequently rush to the spot to assist her.
