Workers clean a section of Kolkata airport
“Over the 24 days, we will focus on each aspect of the airport that concerns the passenger.
We will check whether the signage is adequate and facilitates ease of movement through the facility and if the flight information display system is comprehensive and easy to understand,” airport director Vikram Singh said. “A seva report will be prepared at the end of the exercise to identify areas of improvement so that action can be taken on them,” the airport director said, emphasising on the airport’s efforts to constantly improve its upkeep and services through its focus on passenger amenities and services. Frequent flyers said the biggest improvement had been in restrooms, which were visibly cleaner and better maintained. “Apart from the Yatri Seva Abhiyan, we are also starting a cleanliness drive from Sept 17 to Oct 2, which will look at the cleanliness in and around the airport, and in the neighbouring communities as well,” said Singh.
The poor maintenance of toilets that have been a peeve point for years had led to the airport preparing a deep-cleaning schedule that ensured that toilet blocks remained free of stains and stink.
