Food safety department officials raid a restaurant in Salt Lake, near City Centre on Saturday
In Sept, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had suspended the food licences and temporarily closed over 40 major restaurants, eateries and sweet shops across the city following a food safety crackdown.
Sources said that the authorities had previously conducted inspections at the restaurants and had imposed fines. Food safety wing officials conducted raids on several street food stalls and the dhaba and immediately suspended the licence of the dhaba after visiting the kitchen and food storing place inside its premises. The three-member team also visited the bhujia shop and another adjacent fast-food eatery and stopped operations for at least the next two days. The raids were conducted following questions that were raised regarding the condition of the food items kept in the eateries. During the raid and inspection, the authorities found expired paneer and fungus-infected mutton and chicken at the dhaba along with other unhygienic food items, and the items were seized and the operating licence was cancelled. The popular bhujia shop was also closed after the authorities found stale lassi and other food items.
