CM Suvendu Adhikari meeting family members of Nepal flash flood victims at Nabanna Sabhaghar on Wednesday
CM met with the family members of the 37 Bengal residents missing in the devastating flood at Nabanna Sabhaghar. South 24 Parganas district magistrate was directed to arrange a job for Sarbanu Bibi, wife of missing painting worker Mujibur Molla. Adhikari said the state had no such information and asked Roy to share whatever details he had so that the matter could be taken up with Centre.
Gitika Sarkar Mondal, the wife of missing Samar Mondal of Siliguri, sought urgent financial assistance from CM and he readily announced offering one month’s salary. Adhikari announced employment assistance for several families during the interaction, according to Nabanna sources. Many of the relatives told CM that the disappearance of the primary breadwinner had created difficulties in accessing pensions, LPG connections and other govt services that remained registered in the missing person’s name. The govt is also setting up a dedicated WhatsApp number and an email ID to maintain regular communication with the affected families. Jaba Pal, wife of missing Bankura resident Ashok Pal, will be appointed as CM’s temporary assistant. A family member of another missing person was promised a job at a private organisation. The state will also bear the education expenses of children of the affected families. Officials were directed to record the families’ grievances and take prompt action. Adhikari directed officials to resolve such issues at the earliest. Shubhranshu Roy, former Bijpur MLA whose wife is among those missing, mentioned that some information has suggested to him that some people could be stranded in China. Download the TOI App.
