He said JU evolved from the spirit of the national movement and carries a proud legacy of education, self-reliance, intellectual discourse and nation-building. He wrote, “To facilitate freedom of expression while maintaining a clean and orderly campus, designated areas may be used for wall writing and other such forms of expression. All stakeholders are requested to restrict such activities to the designated spaces and refrain from writing on other walls, buildings, gates and public structures. “Its vibrant academic culture and cherished traditions of freedom of expression and democratic participation are integral parts to this legacy. This is a collective effort to strike a proper balance between freedom of expression and responsibility towards our beloved university,” Bhattacharjee wrote. Download the TOI App.
The appeal comes after JU whitewashed graffiti on the campus on Saturday after CM Suvendu Adhikari’s ultimatum on Friday. The students on Sunday night again started reclaiming the walls across the campus in protest against the clean-up drive.
